Benefits of Using Biomass Pellet Fuel
Author:
In Europe, one common method of heating involves burning biomass pellet fuel—often made from wood, a renewable and cyclically replenished resource. This type of fuel is particularly used in homes with inadequate insulation. Wood-based pellets are small, cylindrical, and classified as solid biofuels. Today, they are widely employed in heating systems, typically produced from dried or untreated wood; occasionally, chemical binders are added during manufacturing to enhance combustion efficiency.
The advantages of burning wood-based biomass pellets are that they produce no carbon dioxide emissions during combustion, are cheaper than natural gas, have a higher energy density than other fuels—requiring less storage space—and are very safe to use. However, while these pellets offer numerous benefits, they also have certain drawbacks: their calorific value is relatively low, they occupy a large volume when burned, and they demand stringent requirements for storage facilities.
Heating with wood pellet fuel is well suited to northern China, particularly in rural areas. As China has a large rural population, many rural homes—due to household circumstances and prevailing attitudes—have not been equipped with adequate insulation or thermal‑retention measures. Consequently, this heating method is especially appropriate for implementation in rural settings.
