The Shanghai Food and Drug Safety Office held a symposium with the Shanghai Petroleum Branch of Sinopec to discuss and study matters related to the market promotion of biodiesel produced from kitchen waste oils.
On the afternoon of November 8, 2017, Yang Jinsong, Director of the Shanghai Food and Drug Safety Office and Director of the Municipal Food and Drug Administration, led a delegation to Sinopec’s Shanghai Branch for a symposium with Zuo Xingkai, Chairman and Party Secretary of the branch, to discuss the city’s efforts to promote the resource‑based utilization of kitchen waste oils.
How can we establish a long-term mechanism for the production and use of biodiesel? This is what the Vice Mayor of Shanghai had to say.
At a Shanghai Municipal Government press conference held on November 8, 2017, Vice Mayor Xu Kunlin stated that, while strictly preventing “gutter oil” from re-entering the food supply chain, Shanghai has established a group standard for producing biodiesel from kitchen waste oils and fats, and is promoting its application in the transportation sector, including vehicles and vessels.

The United States has imposed preliminary anti-dumping duties on biodiesel from Argentina and Indonesia.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has determined that Argentina and Indonesia are dumping biodiesel into the United States. Following a preliminary ruling this week, it will impose preliminary anti-dumping duties on these countries, with the rate depending on the volume of dumped imports.
